The Budget Army Lists!

Here are the Budget army lists. They are all 1500 points for under $300... except guard... that one is $306. Stupid 5 point guardsmen! We have skipped a few armies on purpose. Necrons because they are incredibly easy to build cheaply... and because their codex is so weak right now. Dark Eldar because the one or two "competitive" army lists are expensive (raider intensive) and anything else has a tough time in 5th edition. Orks & Marines got skipped because Black Reach makes them super easy to build cheaply. We also skipped the all metal armies for shipping costs & conversion ease. It's not tough to build a 1500 point GK army cheaply. I might see if I can do something with sisters though.

There are a couple that I'm going to reserve space for because I don't have them typed up yet!

CHAOS DAEMONS

Purchase:

Instructions:
This army needs no special instructions.

Play Tips:
You can split this army into 2 “themed” deployment halves, dropping the Tzeentch in first and shooting the things that might hurt the khorne deamons when they arrive! Put a Flamers of Tzeentch in each half!

Alternatively you can put a mix of unit types in each half. It takes practice to learn the best choice against different types of opponents!

CHAOS MARINES

Instructions:
Do not build the Possessed Chaos Space Marines, instead use their bits to create a Chaos Lord as well as the champions. You should have some left over for future conversions! The Daemonic Claws make great “lightning claws” for your Chaos Lord.

The 9th Khorne Berserker is made from Possessed Chaos Space Marines bits, he is the Aspiring Champion.

Play Tips:

Have the Chaos Lord join the Khorne Berserkers and mount them in the Land Raider. They are a very powerful first hit since they can assault the turn they deploy out of the Land Raider thanks to the Land Raiders “Assault Vehicle” special rule!

IMPERIAL GUARD

Instructions:
While you have all the options to build all these units, you will need to use bits from multiple kits to build each one. Assemble the units carefully (we suggest one by one) so that you don’t miss anything!

Play Tips:
Build a solid firing line with your command HQ and the infantry platoon. The Veterans can move forward slowly while they are supported with shots from the platoon. Your Sentinels can outflank and get a side armor shot on a vehicle to help your Veterans make their way through cover!

Deploy your Lemun Russ tanks into cover and fire them from afar, they will get a 3+ cover save thanks to their camo netting! Remember, that the gun to the Lemun Russ is above most troop units, but the rest of it isn’t. This means that sometimes you can even screen a Lemun Russ with a tightly packed unit of troops and a bit of terrain!

Instructions:
The Pathfinders are built from a Fire Warriors box using the 6 Pulse Carbines that come with it and 6 left over Pulse Carbine armies from the other fire warriors.

The second hammerhead in the list is made from a devilfish from the Battle Force and the Hammerhead Weapon Sprue.

Play Tips:
Use the Pathfinders scout move to get them in position to fire marker lights on a vehicle on your first turn. This will let you call down seeker missiles. This is especially effective if you get the first turn! Remember, when you really need something to die, use marker lights to make the most of your shots!

On the IG, if you can find it, the Apocalypse 3 Leman Russ box comes in around 90 dollars. I know they can be hard to find, but as of last week my LGS still had one.

Also, on the Tau front, when making Pathfinders from Fire Warriors, just remember to leave off the shoulder armour plate, and they're done.

Play Tips
This is a solid all comers list. Let your Carnifex, Zoanthropes, and Warriors take care of armor and thin out gun lines. Meantime let your gaunts either cut down firing lanes or take objectives and let the brood lord and stealers take out whats left of troops. This is the plan atleast.
